The 'Ol Man!
Here's a sketch I did today of my Dad for a DVD project that I am currently working on. The DVD is on drawing and sketching, mostly on sketching.
I NEED YOUR HELP! I'm in need of your questions, questions about drawing and sketching, or things you'd like to see or know more about. If your question is picked, I will mention your name and personally answer your question on the DVD and in some cases draw or sketch something to answer your question.

REally great sketch, Jason. I like how you treated the hair with that loose, energetic line contrasted with the tightness in the mouth and eyes.
I'm just blown away by your "sketches"! If I did anything close to this I would call it the most finished thing I'd ever attempted. . . I don't know what your dad looks like but I bet its exactly like this.
I'm currently taking Bobby Chiu's painting class and am seriously considering yours after it. I'm a huge fan.

Jason did a fine job, let me assure you! I too am a painter...online, but often wearing a cap. Actually proud that at near 55 years of age I yet have this kinda head of hair!! hahaa...
This is my favorite to date of Jason's drawing of me...and I reflect that I was warned by my parents I would look very much like my dad when I got older. Well, I also sound very much like him on the phone which freaks out people that call my mom's house when I visit and answer the phone...as my father (Jason's grandfather) passed away near 20 years ago now.
Difference is...my dad lost most of his hair on top by 30 years of age...otherwise I'm a pretty dead ringer.
That all being said...Jason, you gotta realize with whatever liberties you take to play with the old man's mug...when finished you must look good and long at it. Think of it like a mirror giving you a reflection twenty years from now!!! hahahaaaa...now THAT ought to scare you!!!!

QUESTION: Sometimes the sketch you do is black and white. But later, I see almost the same sketch but colored. How do you so that?

QUESTION: How long (average) takes you for drawing those amazing and elaborated humorous portraits?
QUESTION: How big in pixels do you recommend for drawing a detailed portrait when its final usage will be computer screen? How big in pixels for printout?
QUESTION: Do you draw every single hair (head, beard), or do you use some specialized brush for doing that?
QUESTION: Do you use layers? Lots of layers? Or no layers at all?

the best news I've heard this week. i think it sounds like an ideal solution to expand on your schoolism course without it being a further drain on your time, once its complete of course! and also a great way for people to learn from you who might not be in a position to commit to the deadlines of the caricature course.
You have a lot of knowledge and talent and its great you're so willing to share.
